How To Fix Iphone 6 Plus Touch Disease
- Posted on
It's a strange name indeed, but "touch disease" is a real thing for many unfortunate iPhone 6 owners. If your iPhone has been acting up and your display isn't working as it once was, then you might have contracted the infective "touch disease" that's been going around.
What iPhones are affected by this disease you ask?
Well, according to Apple, the only model being affected is the iPhone 6 Plus. We've heard reports of some regular iPhone 6's being affected, however, Apple has yet to confirm if this is true or not.
How do I know if my phone has Touch Disease? What are the symptoms?
There are two main symptoms of touch disease.
The first symptom is problems occurring with the multitouch screen. Problems include difficulty zooming or pinching as well as other gestures such as taps or long presses. Also, problems with the iPhone screen being unresponsive or not working have been reported.
Another issue users are seeing is a flickering gray bar across the top of their screens.

What is causing the Touch Disease?
Well, the answer to this question is up for debate. Apple believes this phenomenon is caused by users repeatedly dropping their phone on hard surfaces, thus "then incurring further stress on the device". In layman's terms, they're saying users just aren't taking care of their device.
Others, however, are reporting differently. According to Business Insider, it is believed that this issue is due to a design flaw on the iPhone. Any phone can be affected, regardless if it has been dropped or not. The problem they're finding due to the soldering of two touchscreen controller chips that are built into the phone. "Apple has never officially acknowledged the problem, but independent iPhone repair vendors and Apple Store technicians have said that it is easily one of the most common issues that people need to fix."
It's possible that both theories are correct. Dropping your phone onto a hard surface can indeed loosen the soldering. Even if you haven't dropped your phone, there are some phones that just have manufacturing flaws.

So, why is it a "disease"?
This we can't answer. We didn't name this phenomenon "iPhone Touch Disease", especially since diseases are illnesses that are spread from party to party.
How do you fix the iPhone Touch Disease?
Well, in most cases this isn't something that users will be fixing on their own unless they're particularly skilled with a soldering iron. You could always try fixing or replacing your iPhone screen first and see if that works.
Though if you're positive you have the disease then the simplest fix is to have Apple repair your phone. You'll still have to pay for the cost of repair, but it'll be much less expensive than many other common iPhone repairs.
What are the requirements of Apple's repair and what's the cost?
In order to qualify, you must own an iPhone 6 that's in working condition and shows symptoms of the "touch disease". Also, the screen cannot be cracked or broken. Your battery should also be in good health (if it's not, then check out our reasons on why your iPhone battery is dying and how to fix it). The cost of repair is $149, which isn't cheap, but it's a lot better than forking out $500 for a new iPhone OR to fix the screen by yourself with a new one (read the DIY complete guide here).
